To cross Agnya you have to meditate

Now one thing is there, obstructing Sahasrara, is the movement of your Agnya into thoughts. That is the only thing- that is the only thing that stops your entry into Sahaja Yoga.

Thoughts are coming all the time because a human being is born who reacts to everything. React to this and react to that and thoughts coming and thoughts go. There is a big crowd of thoughts because of that your attention cannot cross over Agnya and cannot reside in the Sahasrara.

So first of all one should see, what sort of thoughts are coming. You have to condemn yourself sometimes. You have to say: 'What nonsense. What have I been doing? What is the matter with me? How could I do all that?' Once you start doing that, these thoughts will start disappearing.

These thoughts are coming from two angle: one from the ego and another from your conditionings. And these are so much built up within you that they don't allow your Agnya to be crossed. That is why we have two Bija Mantras of HAM, KSHAM.

First one is when it is conditioning. You are endowed with this kind of fear: 'I should not do like this. I should not do like that. This is not allowed. That is not allowed.' That is the conditioning part of it. Conditioning can be of many types. But the ego part is that 'I must overpower everybody. I must get this. I must be able to rule everyone.'

These two things are there in the mind, which are all the time crossing. So it is important that we should go into thoughtless awareness and that thoughtless awareness is the real way that your Sahasrara can be nourished by the Kundalini. Because Kundalini cannot go through, cannot pass through and for that, as I said, there are two Bija Mantras. One is HAM. Another is KSHAM.

So if you are conditioned, you are frightened, you are afraid and you have ideas about yourself. These days the way people are describing: They say: 'I am an extrovert.' Somebody will say: 'I am an introvert.' Somebody will say: 'I am hippy.. I am that.. I am that..'

All kinds of things they can have attributed to themselves. But these ideas are all coming from outside, they are not from inside. To get to the inner side of yourself, the subtler side of your being, you must allow the Kundalini to go through the Agnya.

To cross the Agnya is a very important thing in modern times. And for that you have to meditate. If you can meditate with complete faith in yourself, this Agnya can be opened up. With surrendering to the Divine, you have to surrender yourself to the Divine and when this Agnya opens, you will be amazed. Your Sahasrara is just waiting to transfer, to give you all the help that you need through the all pervading power.

Your connection of Sahasrara with the all pervading power is established and by that you will be amazed how all these seven chakras work for you, how they help you, how they try to give you whatever is the real knowledge about everything. This real knowledge that you get is very joy giving.

You can see this real knowledge in everything. You don't have to start reading any book about it. In every situation and in every person, in every flower, in every natural happening, you see clearly the hand of the Divine. Once you see the hand of the Divine, your ego start disappearing, once you say that: 'It is you. You do everything.'

Kabira has said something great about this. He said that when the goat is alive, it goes on saying I am, ma ma, I am, I am. But when it is slaughtered and its intestines are made into strings, which are used for cleaning the cotton, then it said tuhi, tuhi, you are, you are. See in this symbolic way, they have suggested that you have to become the, dissolved into this divine power. It is the divine power that does everything.

What am I? I was just a drop and I fell into this ocean of awareness of the divine power and that is taking over and working it out. That will help you a lot to be a great Sahaja Yogi.

Christ suggested no greed or lust

Merry Christmas to you all. According to Sahaja Yoga Christ is settled on your Agnya Chakra. His whole life is depicting the qualities of a person who is a realized soul.

What He has suggested in his own life is that you should not have any greed or lust.

The way these days people are greedy all over the world is really shocking. Right from the childhood our children also learn to ask for this or ask for that. Only complete satisfaction in life can give you that equanimity, that balance by which you do not hanker after things.

These days even India has become very much westernized in the sense, they are also very much wanting to have this and that. Actually now in America suddenly with this happening, people are getting to spirituality. They come to spirituality because they think they have not found any satisfaction anywhere. What we have to receive from His life, the great life of Christ?

First He was born in a small little hut. As you so many of them when you come along, very much satisfied and He was put in a cradle which was all covered with dry, very dry grass. Can you imagine? And then He sacrificed His life on the cross.

Whole thing is a story of a sacrifice because He had a power, Power of spirit that He could sacrifice anything, even sacrifice his own life. So you can understand, the greatness of Christ was coming from his great personality of spirituality.

Beej Mantras – ‘Ham and Ksham'

The aim of Jesus Christ was to open the centre of your Agnya and to achieve that purpose He got Himself crucified and then He resurrected. It appears to be a miracle but for the Divinity there is no miracle as such. He proved that human beings could rise above the centre of Agnya and on this centre He told two mantras which we call

Beej Mantras – ‘Ham and Ksham’-

‘Ksham’ means to forgive. Ksham is the biggest mantra. The ego of the person who knows how to forgive, gets destroyed. One is proud of small-small things. For example if you tell someone to sit on the earth, his ego gets hurt. If some one is told to sit in the chair, he will reply, “This chair is very small, why have you given it to me?”

Everyone has some expectation about him and if his expectations are not fulfilled, his ego immediately comes up. Unknowingly some times such things could be done but the egoistical people take it as their insult. Such people make their condition very miserable. All the time they think they are being insulted and humiliated. He is always obsessed with this thought and he draws negative meaning of whatever is told to him.

So we have to think of what Jesus Christ had thought. He said, “Forgive those who have tress passed against you”. Now see the results if you forgive everyone. You will neither suffer nor get disturbed mentally. You will not think of the person whom you have forgiven. Nothing could go against you because you forgive everyone. We get this power from the centre of Agnya.

The person whose Agnya is clear forgives everyone. If we do not forgive we torture ourselves and play in the hands of others, who assume power over us. ‘Forgiveness’ is the greatest message that Jesus Christ has given to mankind.

Second is ‘Ham’. It has altogether different meaning. Ham means ‘To Know Thyself.’ You have to know that you are the Spirit. You are not this body, mind, brain or ego. You are the Spirit. When you knows this ‘Ham’ then it will be clear to you that you are the ‘Atma’. The ‘Spirit’ means that all the ego, foolishness, ignorance that we have in our mind, are meaningless. All these negativities have absolutely no place in the Pure Spirit. You are very pure.

Forgiveness doesn’t mean suffering

Then we come to the Agnya. In Agnya what has happened is Sahaja Yogis have become such that, they can bear anything. They can suffer anything.

That’s not what we want. What we want is to remove the suffering of others, remove the aggression of others. So we don’t have that kind of organization, we don’t have. That kind of understanding, we don’t have. And if that works out you will be different people.

So we have become like saints, you see, sitting in their hermit halls, something like that, not more than that.

So better try to do something positive, without aggression. I know some of you are still very aggressive, are show-offs I know that. But if you get into the mood of working collectively, then you will realize what mistakes you have. Still, what is lacking in your personality? That is very important.

At Agnya chakra many Sahaja Yogis flatter. I don’t know what happens to them. At Agnya, I have told that you must forgive. But that doesn’t mean that you allow people to do wrong things. Because you want to forgive, its very easy not to fight, not to say anything, just keep out, just forgive, no.

You go and talk to that person and tell him it is wrong. You have to face it. If you cannot face it, then you are useless, just like any other people. What’s the use of you people getting your Realization?

Navratri - 6th Night - Sashti

KATYAYANI - Who incarnated to help the Devas

There are seven chakras for your ascent and two above it. That should be your destiny. But if you people go only on the Agnya move on Agnya, you cannot rise any higher. People have been lost on that chakra. So, that is a very important chakra. Sixth-'Shashti' of the Goddess is regarded as a very important thing and they say that Goddess comes on a 'naanv', on a boat, Calcutta people believe it because the sixth day is very big to cross it. That is what today is the problem with all of us that we have this sixth day still sitting on our heads and we cannot get out it. So to come to the ninth stage, though we may do Puja, we may do anything, but we are still on the sixth. So it is just outwardly that we are doing Puja. Seventh day is the day, where I am there. But 7th and 8th and 9th has to be achieved by crossing your 6th. Today I am going to tell you about the 6th because is the most important of all of us to know, that what Goddess has done for the sixth day. Mahalaxmi incarnated as Mary and she brought Her son, who was Jesus Christ and She wanted him to cross this 6th centre for everybody else and that is how he had to become the subtle form of 'Chaitanya'. He was the subtle form of Chaitanya. The way he walked on water. But ultimately he became Chaitanya, and he crossed over by leaving his body as subtle.

-H.H.Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, extract from Navaratri 19th october1988

Today we have to think this, that we are a personality now and we have achieve this according to our karmas in previous births. Because we had lot of Punyas, we are sitting here. We can sit here and enjoy. We can go higher. Why should we have stone tied on us when we are taking a jump in the ocean. If you can swim - be free - enjoy swimming and get advantage of all your Shaktis. I bless you today that all your dormant Shaktis will get awakened, gradually you will feel them and the flow of these Shaktis that are within you will bring the joy and many blessings to you.

EYES

Now it is said that if you have wobbling eyes, you will have a wobbling Agnya. You have to steady the eyes to soothe them. The most soothing thing for the eyes is the green grass. If you could see the green grass with your eyes, you walk with your eyes on the ground.

{Talk on Agnya, Caxton Hall, London, 18/12/78}

In Sahaja Yoga I have noticed that nowadays, many people have spoiled their Agnya Chakras. The reason is that these people follow a wrong guru or bow before or touch their heads at wrong places. Many of the eye-diseases are caused by such wrong practices.

{Advice given in Marathi, Bombay, 26/9/79

If you are eyes are unholy, you have eye troubles and your eyes get weakened. This does not mean that if you have to use spectacles, you become an unholy or improper person. It is the law of life that you have to use spectacles at an advanced age.

{Advice given in Marathi, Bombay, 26/9/79.

if the child has got bad eyes, you might see two black spots or two shining spots in your vision. The vision. Now, if you close your eyes, you get a vision of colours in front of you. You see colour, you can say not colour but you can say it's a greyish whitish thing you see. if the child has got any kind of a trouble in the eyes, you will see two black spots, very strong, or two white spots, round, absolutely round, two spots you will find. Thats the sign the childs eyes are , but when your eyes are bad, also when you put attention to yourself also you might find little bit, or when they are tired, youll find those two little spots like that. Now supposing while seeing this if you see a small little follicle in a child, like a reddish spot, then know that the child is sick, he has got a tumour somewhere. You might see a follicle like this, like a little heart you can see, or maybe a round thing, that colour. Heart colour. And then know that the child is sick. He is not all right.

{Talk to Mothers and Babies, 1983}

Now for eyes to be cleaned out properly and kajal must be put. Now to make a simple kajal, what we do, is to burn some camphor and collect the camphor soot on a silver plate. Silver plate is cooling, and then mix it up with some nice butter, clean butter, or ghee. Ghee is better, with ghee. Very clean, nice ghee. You mix it up and put it in the water, let the water clean it for some time and then when it is completely drained, the water will not stick because it is all ghee, then put it in a proper thing and use your, this finger, every day for the child after bath, every day because that will give them very sharp eyes and there wont be any problem of the eyes for quite some time.

{Talk to Mothers and Babies, 1983}

And Agnya Chakra, if it is spoilt at the back, that means definitely possessed. At the back [of the head] if the Agnya Chakra is caught then one developes blindness, with the eyes open. Now in India it is very common. There is one more thing that happens to our eyes. When the Swadisthana Chakra goes out of order. It is represented here at the back [of the head], which is around this back Agnya. So when you have diabetes or anything like that, people start becoming blind You have seen many diabetic people get this blindness. So first of all cure your diabetes through curing your Swadisthana. And also you can use an ice around your Swadisthana at the back If it is Swadisthana you have to use the water [ice] but if it is just the possession, then you have to use without diabetes, if it is a possession then you have to just use the light. That is how we cure our Agnya Chakra.

Shree Mataji on introspection

" We should do a lot of introspection, to find out 'what is wrong with me'...can I sleep on the grass...can I sit on the stone...can I sleep any time, keep awake anytime...am I seeking the comfort of the body...is my attention on my body or on my spirit...we have to be strict with ourselves, we have to be our own gurus; It is important that Sahaja Yogis have to do introspection...inward..introspection is inward looking...why am I thinking...what am I thinking...what is the need to think...you will become...Nirvichara; It is very important to do so as to overcome to two hurdles of Agnya; What is wrong with my personality...it comes from the surroundings...and the ideas that others have been putting into our heads-what, matters, is what 'I' think, not what others think.

Now don't condemn yourself if you have some defects...there have to be...you are human beings...but all these defects with your power of spirituality, you can overcome. For that what have you to do...first is introspection...trying to find out. You separate yourself with your spirit...and say...'hello Mr. ..how are you'...start with that...'hello...what are you up to'...and you start seeing yourself outside...and eradicating, removing all that is not yourself.

The fear comes, that I will be putting up my ego- that if we assert something or the other as right, then we will be putting up our ego; Know that you are a realised soul, start respecting yourself, and you will not fall into the trap of ego...'how can I behave like this'. Then a kind of dignity develops, and we feel shy of doing something stupid; we must develop a complete attention towards our weakness, and not towards our achievements.

If you are hot tempered, alright go ahead and beat yourself with shoes ... but if you are not, then you need not... you must know what you are... first of all introspect... then accordingly you should work it out; Without introspection you will not know... you will never remember what you have done wrong, nor will you think of what you have to do right... but that is only possible... if you go on improving yourself.

For your ascent, it is necessary that you should introspect... try to find out what you have been doing. Are you an absolutely humble person... do you do whatever is told to you...are you a fussy person...do you worry about time... are you a detached person... are you bound by one of the ganas, left or right... or are you all the time like a pendulum moving from left to right. Right to left... do you worry about what food you should eat, when you should eat, or whom you should please?

In the light of spirit you can see how you are doing wrong. The spirit is like a mirror, where you can see yourself clearly and stare changing yourself... and then... there's no introspection needed. When you have your spirit awakened, you can watch yourself... you can see for yourself, clearly, as soon as you become a developed or evolved Sahaja Yogi... and that's one point one should see... if it has happened to you. If you can see something wrong with you.. If you can find out what sort of defects you have... of you can detach yourself from those defects. And if you can understand that all these attachments and defects, and if you can understand and defects and habits are pulling you down - then you can leave them... but that only happens when you have this mirror of yourself shining through.

Your own development, your own connection, your own position in Sahaja Yoga will say what you are... whatever others may say doesn't matter... what you say about yourself, truly, truthfully is the reality, and you must face yourself all the time."

What are the Don'ts and Do's for Sahaja Yogis?

Question: What are the Don'ts and Do's for Sahaja Yogis?

Answer: First and foremost thing is that a Sahaja Yogi cannot smoke or drink. One absolutely hundred percent sure. Because if you drink or smoke, you will find after sometime, either you will lose your Vibrations, or you will start vomiting. You cannot smoke. If you smoke, your Visshuddhi will be caught. If you drink, your Manipur (Nabhi) will be caught, and whenever you put your hand towards my Photograph, your Nabhi Chakra will be burning. Many people have done it without any difficulty. They do not have any difficulty. They just give up. So this is one of the most important thing that you have to gradually give up. You just take my Name and it will work it out.Secondly. don't fast. When Mother is there you have not to fast. Only fast on Nrak Chaturdashi.

That's all. If you don't feel like eating, eat something else. But don't keep your stomach empty. You can drink fruit juice, or milk or whatever you like. These are certain things about the food and stomach Nabhi Chakra. Next the eyes, are the very important things, where you have to be very careful not to move your eyes very fast anywhere, try to keep your eyes steady, and mostly on the Mother Earth. You have heard about Laxmana, He never saw the face of Sitaji. Only saw Her feet. How can that be? He was always with them. So you can imagine what should be the position. For complete fourteen years, he has to lead a Bramhachari life. She was like his mother. He knew that She was Adi Shakti. But he just saw Her feet. That should be our case. We should lead a sanctified married life. Create a nest of family. A proper family house. Try to adopt, compromise, adjust. Make your wife realised, make your husband Realised, and bring peace in the family; because there are many great souls who want to take birth.

Those who got married like this, they all got realised children. So you must try to get a family life, a proper family, a proper relationship give service to your parents, don't find faults with your parents and try to be kind to them, and try to be good in the family. Don't spoil the children, also correct them. Make them loving. Make a nice society. Every one of you should be the carrier of Love of your Mother. If you are a Sahaja Yogi, and if you change and transform in your behaviour, naturally Sahaja Yoga will have its own reputation, and everybody will start taking to Sahaja Yoga. You cannot earn any money from Sahaja Yoga.Do not have Sahaja Yogis for business partnership.Do not use Sahaja Yoga for making money. You have to be generous people.

You have to be honest. There are Ten Commandments as they say, and be satisfied in your heart. You have to lead a chaste life, and see chaste things your priorities will change. Your friends will change, you will not like dirty jokes. You will just change, and run away from them. I have seen these foreigners now. They say t hat they just cannot tolerate those things now. Once upon a time whatever they used to tolerate and enjoy also; they cannot tolerate it now. Because you have become sensitive now. You have to be decent people.Don't be misers at all. All miserly people are against Sahaja Yoga, and if miserly people come I give them troubles. If you are miserly, you get lots of troubles. So don't get miserly. I am telling you, don't be too talkative also. If you become too talkative, and troublesome, I can stop your talking. If you don't talk at all; that is also not good. That means, don't go to extremes.

May God Bless you all.

How was the first orchestra of the universe composed! And Rawan the great melodious singer of his times!

" As we all know Seeta's marriage was a 'Swayamwar' wherein there was a condition that the marriage aspirant had to tie the string of the bow. In his effort to do this Lord Ram broke the bow. This breaking created a big sound in the sky. That was music of a kind. Gods' angels, fairies and apsaras became thrilled and started singing and dancing and the entire event became the first spontaneous expression of joy and this eventually became the first orchestra of the universe. This can also be taken as a good example of music i.e. a trinity of vocal, Instrumental and Dance. Ironically Rawan was also present as one of the marriage aspirants. The big bow became heavy for him. He could not lift up the bow, let alone tying the string. The bow fell on his body and he fell flat on the ground and consequently this became a great shock to his heart, which manifested itself in the Agnya Chakra through out his life. The same Rawan in Ramayan was a great musician and a melodious singer. One is surprised to find music and evil combined into one character. Rawan was a great memorable character in the sense that he was the one who had completely surrendered to evil qualities like ego, arrogance, over-confidence, villainy and an ability to do any bad thing. The evil in him was limitless. How come that this devil was musician -singer? His absorbing singing could not reach that point in excellence, which links Heaven and earth. At one time, it is said that when Rawan was singing Mantra of Lord Shiva, it so happened that the strings of his Veena were cut and broken, it was as if the strings of his heart was broken, and then he did nothing but cut one of his ten heads and used the nerves as strings of Veena. He did not see his oozing blood. He saw nothing. He was only singing until at last Lord Shiva became pleased, forgot his Kailash and came down to earth to meet Rawan. This shows that music in the epic period of Ramayana had a strange quality of excellence."

Third eye

"Today we are going to understand the center of Agnya - Agnya Chakra which is placed on the crossing of the optic chiasma. The nerves that supply the eyes go backwards in the opposite direction and wherever they cross, this subtle center is situated. It has a continuous connection with the other center through the medulla oblongata. This center has got two petals. And this subtle center on one side acts through the eyes and at the back of the head where you have some protrusion. This is the physical side of this center is. Now the people who talk of the third eye, this is the third eye. So that we have two eyes with which we see and there’s a third eye, which is a subtler eye through which we can see.If you see this eye, that means you are away from it. For example, if you can see your eyes, that means you are seeing your reflection, not the reality. If you see anything, that means you are looking at it. So those people who say they see an eye, for example people who take LSD and all such things, they start seeing another eye. They just see this eye and they think their third eye has opened. Actually you are very much away from the eye, that’s why you can see it. You go to a supraconcious level on the right side, and on the left side to the subconscious level you can see the eye. But in Sahaja Yoga you have to see through that eye, like a window, you can look at the window but if you see through the window, you can’t look at the window. So this illusion that people have that “we can see third eye and that’s why our Kundalini is awakened”, they are sadly mistaken. This is a very narrow passage through which attention cannot pass normally. Is an impossible thing. Is a very narrow passage where the ego and superego fit onto each other and cross each other just like this. And there is no gap in between for the Kundalini to pass through. This superego and ego go back, go downward, and come to the Vishuddhi Chakra and circle round it and go in the same direction. So, you find that they come up to this place, they start from this place, go up to the Agnya Chakra and then they cross over. But here, they are in the same direction as they were. Here they cross over. So when you have a problem on the left hand side, you get the effects of that on the right hand side. ... So this third eye is to be penetrated through."

TURIYA DASHA

Advice given by H.H.Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi:"... most important for all of us is to know that there's a nadi which passes through left Vishuddhi into the heart. Starts from the heart, goes up, passes through Agnya. It has four petals, opens up. This is the one which gives you the state which is called as Turiya.

We live in three states. In the living - in the awakened state, jagruti - our attention goes to this, that, and all that, we spoil our attention.

But the second one is the one what we call is that we sleep. When we sleep also all these things that have happened come to us from our past and things like that. But then we go to the deeper sleep called as sushupti. Is a state where you have deep sleep, and you dream of something that is reality also. You may dream about me. Like it's the ethereal part of the subconscious where some beautiful informations are passed. Supposing I've come, say, to Italy. Italians might know in their sushupti that I have come here or maybe anybody might know, depends on.

But the fourth state is called as Turiya. There are two more states. You are in the Turiya state, is the fourth. Turiya means fourth. Fourth state is where, that you are in a thoughtless awareness state. When there is no thought - just think of it - when there is no thought you have to be innocent. When there is no thought you have to have vibrations. When there is no thought you cannot be attached to anyone. So into that thoughtless state you have come now, is the Turiya disthuti. And in this state, when you are, these four petals which are within you have to open out in your brain. They come from your heart to your brain. And that is when you absolutely understand what is God. Absolutely know what is God is. That is the time when one receives the real knowledge. But unless and until these four petals open one may fall back."(MahaShivaratri Puja, 16/2/91)"

So, when you are in the center you witness, you start witnessing. When you steady yourself in the center. Because some people are such that they start on the left, go to the right, they become so ego-oriented that it’s impossible to deal with. But if you stay in the center, that’s the fourth side, is staying in the center. Turiya is the fourth dimension. If you could stay on that then you become a witness. And that’s the point where you start sucking the joy of every moment. Every moment, of everything, of every work, of every friendship, of every relationship, of every understanding."(Talk, Brompton Square, London, 7/12/81)"

So the relationship with the Adi Kundalini is that it is the reflection of the Adi Kundalini. Now the reflection — supposing you take an Indian mirror; you look in the mirror and you’ll find you look like nothing on earth, it will just cut you into three pieces, maybe, or anything. But if you take a Belgian mirror, say, then the reflection is correct, full – but still not three dimensional. But this is a four dimensional reflection — four dimensional it is, what is called as turiya state. And that four dimensional personality you have reflected because of your reflector of your desire. The reflector is the desire and the reflection is complete."(Shri Adi Kundalini Puja, 11/8/91)"

Turiya is the fourth state. In the fourth state you dominate these three gunas, you control all the elements. At this stage, you just say and it works. You have seen yesterday what happened with me. It just works, you become master of these three gunas. Like I used to describe that first you are sitting in the car and somebody's driving you. He uses your left and right side, or you can say, the brake and accelerator, and the car is driven. Then he starts teaching you how to drive. Then you start learning by using your left and right, accelerator and your brake. Then the third stage comes in where you become a driver, but still you are worried about the master who is sitting behind, that still you are doing a mistake, you are doing wrong. But then the fourth stage comes, you become the master. You make others drive. Order here, anyone, order the Sun, order the Moon, order. Order means just tell them, I mean not question of any domination is there. Just desire. Just say it, it works out. Now this fourth stage is called as Turiya Dasha.

Then comes the fifth stage in which - I don't want to give you names because you’ll stick on to those. They are not so clear cut. They mingle from each other you see, and they are mixtures. But in Turiya state when you mature properly, then you jump into the fifth state, in which you do not even, you do Sankalpa. You do not even determine or say anything. You just, anything slips out of your mouth, may not even slip out - it works. Is a state. There you handle the whole situation, sitting down here.

Sitting down here, you know each and every thing. Then not only you have mastered it, but in that you can enter into it. Now, for example, I’ll tell you what. I can enter into your subconscious, into your collective subconscious, into your supraconscious, into all the areas you see, I can if I want to. This is when you have mastered it completely, then you enter into it. When you are the master, then you enter into it. When you're master of this house, you can enter into any place. Then comes the seventh state and that is the state where you, just you are. Your being there is sufficient. Just being there. Nothing exists, but you - for yourself. Now all these seven states you can reach, because I stand beyond them and I have come down to the first state. I'm trying to pull you out. If you do not drag me down, I can pull you up very fast. So only request is don't drag me down."

Agya Chakra

INTRODUCTION

The Agnya Chakra is situated in the center of the brain area, and represents the sixth stage of man’s evolution. We can identify its position as the middle of the forehead. It is the gateway to the Sahasrara Chakra, and so will not allow the Kundalini to rise above if there are any impurities in the mind. When the Kundalini passes through this Chakra, our thought waves elongate so that the space between the two thoughts grows wider. This space is silence, and as the petals of the Chakra open up, silence blossoms in the center and spreads outwards, pushing our thoughts to the periphery of our awareness. This is where the state of “thoughtless awareness” happens. In this state we actually feel the beautiful silence, the stillness, which is at the heart of creation.

QUALITY

The primary quality of the Agnya Chakra is forgiveness. At this point in our evolution man had developed a sophisticated society, but with this sophistication came the problem of ego
– the idea that he was doing it all. This problem of I-ness was accelerated by the continuing success of these material gains
– flourishing civilizations, world trade routes and other such trappings. The natural result of this could only be an inflated Ego, and this arrogance was further fuelled by the conditionings of upbringing and environment (e.g. from parents and friends), the perils of the Superego. So Ego and SuperEgo conspired to make man very isolated from his Spirit, from his true essence.

The Human Mind -

The human mind is divided into an Ego and SuperEgo. These are located at the uppermost endpoints of the channels of Ida Nadi (the Moon Line of Left Channel) and Pingala Nadi (the Sun Line or Right Channel). These two channels cross over at
the Agnya Chakra. Everything which relates to the past (such as memories, conditionings, and emotions) accumulates as a residue in the SuperEgo on the right – having crossed over from the Left Channel – side of the brain. Everything which relates to the future (such as thinking, planning, action, etc.) likewise accumulates as a residue, but in the Ego on the left side of the brain.

It is not that we should want to destroy our Ego, it has a very useful place in our being. Without it we would not be able to act at all. But we need to bring it into balance with the SuperEgo in order to create a space through which the Kundalini can
ascend to pass into the Sahasrara. And controlling Ego is a hard task to master

Forgiveness -

Forgiveness (and forbearnance) and humour are perhaps the most effective methods. The Ego is a creature of action. It thrives on doing – on punishing for a wrong, on effecting a change, on obtaining a desire. By practising forbearance, we slow down the fuel of the Ego, we force the Ego to wait. By so doing our Spirit then has the time to shine through in our action, and the true course becomes manifest. It is a simple truism that if at any time we seem in a hurry to accomplish some task or achieve some event, then the Ego is the driver of the chariot. The Spirit operates to a Divine timetable, and even so ensures that the end result is of total benefit to us as Spiritual beings, without our having to “push things along”. Forgiveness is simply another fact of this state.

Humour also provides a strong dose of medicine for an Ego in full flight. It is easy to deflate the balloon of Ego and pull it back into proportion by pricking it with a pin of humour. By watching the Ego as a witness, we can begin to see its subtle tricks and manipulations, and then we see the joke of it all. We can never fight the Ego, that is a contradiction of terms (fighting requires action, the action is Ego, Ego fights Ego…?). we can only bring it down with our laughter, and then our Heart will break through its stranghold.

TRADITION

The presiding deity (or role model) of the Left Agnya center is Shri Mahavira, who was the incarnated expression of the SuperEgo of the Virata. His seat is in the SuperEgo in the right temple. He preached non violence to the self and others. His message was very subtle – that one should not harbour violent thoughts, and that through gentleness of mind the SuperEgo was sublimated. He showed man how to rise above the gross mind.

Shri Buddha is the deity of the Right Agnya, and He expresses the Ego of the Virata, and has His seat in the Ego on the left temple. He spread the message of compassion and non violence. He preached the eightfold path, and taught self balance called the middle path. He revealed the art of piercing the Ego for the ascent of Kundalini.

En route to the Sahasrara Chakra, the Sushumna Channel passes through the center Agnya Chakra. This is the place of Lord Jesus and Mary. Jesus said the He was the Light of the
Path, and it is His Path that leads us to the kingdom of Heaven in the Sahasrara. Through His power of forgiveness He brought redemption to mankind. He came to help man realise his own
Ego by allowing Himself to be crucified; great repentance was aroused in man, who could then see the monstrosity of his own Ego and thus realise humility. Jesus then showed true forgiveness. If one sincerely asks for forgiveness it will be given. Not only do we leave the past behind with forgiveness, but we leave our Karmas and Sins behind as well. The Spirit cannot
accumulate sin or Karmas (the fruit of past actions) any more then it can accumulate guilt. Once we are beyond the Ego, in the Spirit, we are beyond all of our past actions. The coming of Christ was a major breakthrough in the human Spiritual ascent; He dissolved all the guilt; sublimated the Ego, taught forgiveness and proclaimed the immortality of the Spirit through His Resurrection. He was born again into the Spirit, and we also are born again into our Spirit, when our Kundalini gives us our second birth.

GROSS PHYSICAL ASPECT

Amongst other things, the Agnya Chakra governs our sight. We should therefore respect our eyes as a gift with which the beauty of the Divine creation is revealed to us. We should not waste or abuse that gift. To stop the eyes from wandering, or from suffering from attention on gross things, we should encourage ourselves to take time out to look at the natural things like sky and grass, or even look at a flame as a means of cleansing.

CLEARING THE AGNYA

Clearing the Left Chakra:

Using the Elements:

Look at the Agnya spot on the photograph of Shri Mataji through a candle flame.
Use the candle treatment on the back of the head (aka Back Agnya treatment).
Let the sunlight fall on the back of the head.

Affirmations:

Mother, please forgive me for anything I may have done against my Spirit.

General Advice:

Left hand towards the photo, right hand on the back of the head. Tapping the back of the head with right palm, left hand towards the photo. Reduce the pressure on the SuperEgo by stroking the right temple across the back of the head downwards to the Swadisthan Chakra. In severe cases use burning camphor bhandans on the back of the head.
Do not live in the past. Reflecting on past events and relationships, and other nostalgic attitudes feeds the SuperEgo, so try to stop indulging in these habits and conditionings.
* Sometimes the SuperEgo becomes so overbloated that it squeezes the Ego and presses down the Vishudhi Chakra at the base of the skull and neck. This is sometimes incorrectly diagnosed as a Vishudhi problem – the cure is as above.

Clearing the Right Chakra:

Using the Elements:

Look at the Agnya spot on the photograph of Shri Mataji through a candle flame.

Affirmations:

Mother, I forgive everyone, including myself.
Mother, You do everything, I do nothing.

General Advice:

Left hand towards the photo, right hand on the forehead.
Stop all meditative activities involving the Agnya,
e.g. concentration, visualization, hypnosis, clairvoyance, etc.
Forget the many wrong conditionings presented by the “Christian” organizations and churches.
Do not be futuristic, try to stay in the present.
* When there is excessive overbloating of the
Ego, the SuperEgo becomes squeezed and
memory problems can develop.
